The key to preserving paper products lies in controlling the ambient temperature and humidity, using acid-free containers, and performing regular maintenance to prevent mold, insect infestation, and aging.
Light and Air: Paper products must be stored away from light. Ultraviolet rays will cause paper to yellow and become brittle. Direct sunlight is strictly prohibited. The light intensity for display should not exceed 50 lux.
Air Purification: Keep the storage environment clean and reduce dust and harmful gases. Dust is a medium for the spread of mold spores and contains acidic substances.
Ventilation Requirements: Ventilate scientifically and appropriately, but avoid opening windows in humid weather to prevent moisture from entering.
Temperature and Humidity Management: The optimal temperature for long-term storage should be maintained between 14℃ and 24℃, with a diurnal temperature range not exceeding ±2℃, and a relative humidity constant between 45% and 60%.
Temperature Effects: Excessively high temperatures accelerate the hydrolysis and oxidation of paper fibers, while excessively low temperatures reduce paper plasticity. 18℃ to 22℃ is the ideal range.
Humidity Effects: Excessively high humidity promotes mold and insect infestation, while excessive dryness causes paper to become brittle and crack. A dehumidifier or humidifier should be used to regulate humidity.
