Specialty printing encompasses many types depending on the content. Those exhibiting any of the following characteristics are classified as specialty printing:

1. Printing on paper or other substrates using inks with special properties;

2. Printing on special shapes or materials using special printing methods;

3. Special processing printing methods that transfer printed material onto other substrates.

The basic characteristics of specialty printing also include: the relativity of the concept (specialty printing is a branch of printing developed using general printing technology); the diversity of substrates (substrates include metals, glass, synthetic resin fibers, etc., with surfaces such as flat and curved); the diversity of inks (inks can be used or not, including liquid inks, magnetic inks, scented inks, conductive inks, etc.); the special nature of the printing equipment; and the special nature of the printing process, including pressure-based and pressureless printing.

Therefore, specialty printing is not necessarily limited to traditional printing methods; other printing techniques can also be used to obtain printed materials.
